I've been thinking of getting/making a lightbox.
I'm a shite artist and I want to improve my grasp on foreshortening/perspective/proprtions etc. but I can't do it just from looking at pictures and attempting to copy them.

I'm right there with you on the lightbox thing, bro. And you're right, the only way to improve is to do ... over and over and over again. One can never stop learning with this stuff. Good luck on the lightbox!

i think I had it drilled in my head that using a lightbox to learn was cheating and so I kept trying to go it on my own, to learn from trying and looking at photos and art...10 years later I can't really say I've improved too terribly much.

I'ld love to try inking your stuff. Shoot me a copy and Ill send it back once I've inked it. See if you like it.

Holy cats, this is just awesome! Jeff and Bryce are totally goin to flip when they see it. Your lines have great weight to them and I love how intense his pose feels, very strained. Whee! Can't wait to see this in print.

Well, I could see where using a lightbox to sketch over someone elses stuff might help give you a feel for how someone else goes about their work, but if you do that exclusively, it will probably stunt the growth of your own style. I've found that doing it how others do it doesn't always work best for me. Besides, the art world needs different takes on stuff ... if we all looked like J Scott Campbell or Steven Sanchez, this thing wouldn't be as fun. I envy what they can do, but I love having my own look.

If that makes any sense. ~Hartter draws like nothing I've ever seen before, and I consider him to be one of the best artists on dA.
